Campsite Inspiration in the New Forest

Updated: Dec 13, 2025

We have put together a selection of campsites that we have either stayed at in the past ourselves or have been recommended by past hirers and friends. Everyone has their own preferences and requirements, and campsites change, so we cannot guarantee that these will suit everyone’s tastes.

Although we grew up in the New Forest and still live very close by, we still enjoy camping in this wonderful place. There are so many fantastic campsites, and these are a selection of ones that we have used or have been recommended:

Our Top Campsite Picks

Minstead Manor Farm Camping

This is a small Camping and Caravan Club site, so you do need to be a member. It has excellent facilities, including showers, toilets, a washing-up area, and hookups. The view is peaceful, overlooking sheep and a lake. It's perfect for wonderful walks.

Location: Minstead Manor, Emery Down, Lyndhurst

Hurst View Camping

This is a larger family-run site very close to Lymington and Keyhaven. It has good facilities, including showers, toilets, a washing-up area, and some hookups. It can get busy during peak periods and can be a bit breezy being right on the coast. The coastal walk through to either Lymington or Keyhaven is lovely.

Location: Lower Pennington Ln, Lymington SO41 8AL

Ashurst

This is a Camping in the Forest site, so it is very well maintained. You will be camping directly in the forest with ponies roaming around you. It is closed during the winter months and does not allow dogs. The facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, hookups, and a small shop. You can walk directly in the forest from the site.

Location: Lyndhurst Road, Ashurst SO40 7AR

Avon Tyrell Outdoor Activity Centre

The activity centre also has a very good campsite catering to various needs. It’s great for kids who like to be active. Facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, hookups, a small shop, onsite activities, and a small café.

Location: Bransgore, Christchurch, BH23 8EE

Holmsley

This is another Camping in the Forest site, and it is very well maintained. You will be camping directly in the forest. The facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, hookups, and a small shop.

Location: Forest Rd, Burley, Christchurch BH23 7EQ

Red Shoot Camping Park

This campsite has been recommended and certainly gets busy in the summer, which is always a good sign. It offers direct access to the forest and is right next to a pub. You will find all the usual facilities you would expect.

Location: Linwood, Near Ringwood, Hampshire, BH24 3QT

Conclusion

Camping is a fantastic way to connect with nature and create lasting memories. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat or an active adventure, these campsites offer something for everyone. Remember, adventure is not just a destination; it’s a journey. We hope you find the perfect spot for your next camping trip!
